Doncaster Man Awarded Distinguished Conduct Medal

A DONCASTER D.C.M. At the meeting of the Doncaster Town Council this morning, before the election of Mayor, the retiring Mayor (Alderman Carr) presented distinguished conduct medal to Lance-Corporal S. Johnson, K.0.Y.L.1. (whose home is Newborn’s Yard, Doncaster). The particular act for which the medal was awarded is described as follows; For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He defended his post against an enemy bombing attack until his bombs were exhausted. He then rushed an enemy bomber, killed him. and took his bombs off him, and used them with great effect, eventually clearing the trench. A very fine performance.
