(Sarah) Julia Warde-Aldam was born in 1857 in Carlton, the daughter of Reverend William Warde of Hooton Pagnell. After her marriage to William Wright Aldam in 1878, the family lived between Hooton Pagnell Hall, Frickley Hall, and other estates outside of Yorkshire. During the First World War, Julia opened Hooton Pagnell as a hospital, treating wounded soldiers. She served not only as the Commandant of the hospital, but also as the matron and general administrator. She maintained close friendships with ex-patients, sending hundreds of letters, gifts and postcards to them when they returned to the front or were invalided out of the army. She was awarded an MBE and a Royal Red Cross, Second Class, in recognition of her service at Hooton Pagnell. Julia died in 1931 and is buried at Hooton Pagnell Church.
