William H. Cockerton lived in Stainforth with his parents and five siblings in 1901. Upon reaching adulthood he became a joiner and emigrated to Canada.

William returned to England in 1915 and joined the army in November, serving in the Royal Field Artillery as a corporal, regiment number 121316. William was deployed to France in May 1916 and fought at the battle of Messines Ridge.

William died in June of 1917, succumbing to injuries he sustained.
