The war fought between 1914 and 1918 changed the world. Over 30 nations were involved in the conflict that was known as ‘The Great War’ and later ‘The First World War.’ The effects of this war were felt in homes, businesses, and organisations across Doncaster and around the world, from the outbreak of war in August 1914 to long after fighting ceased in November 1918.
“There are some events in human history too great, too profound in their significance for the pen of a contemporary to do justice in their narration.”
Doncaster Gazette, 15 November 1918
