Here’s what some of our current volunteers had to say:
Lynda – Digitisation & Research
“I decided to volunteer because I’m now retired and wanted to get some structure back into my life. I’ve always been interested in this period of history and used to listen to my Grandad’s stories as a kid. My favourite volunteer activity is researching soldiers’ stories.”
Lynda has been volunteering with Doncaster 1914-18 once a week since August 2015.
Rebecca – Research & Conservation
“I volunteer with the project as I love history, especially local history and being able to get involved with it in this way is really exciting – I’d like to eventually work in this field too. It’s been absolutely fascinating to uncover real life stories of local individuals who served in the war and to see the variety of experiences they had and a total honour to be able to be able to handle their medals and to help with the conservation process.”
Rebecca has been volunteering with the project at Doncaster Museum and from home, since July 2015.
